Elizabeth R. Slayden, M.D.
Elizabeth Slayden, M.D. joined AAFPC in 2001 as a specialist in both child and adult psychiatry. She has been awarded board-certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry. Dr. Slayden’s interests primarily center on treating ADHD, Anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, depression, and young adult issues. She also sees patients referred for management of their psychiatric medications (psycho-pharmacology).
Dr. Slayden is originally from Richmond, Kentucky and desired to pursue a medical career, specifically in child psychiatry, from an early age. Her career path evolved from observing her father, one of a few general doctors, provide care to all who were in need. She pursued her pre-medical curriculum at Vanderbilt University where she graduated cum laude and on the Dean’s list in 1989, majoring in molecular biology. She completed her first year of medical school at the University of Louisville and in 1993 she received her M.D. degree among the top of her class at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She stayed in Charleston to complete her internship in pediatrics. Subsequently, Dr. Slayden completed her two-year residency in adult psychiatry at the University of Alabama Birmingham where she was awarded the Best Teaching Psychiatry Resident. Dr. Slayden completed her formal medical training with a two-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Slayden is the mother of three children and is the daughter-in-law of Dr. Robert Slayden, the co-founder of Atlanta Area Family Psychiatry Clinic.
